Whale Watching and Deep Sea Fishing: About 200 gray whales live in the area year-round. You can see them without binoculars, from beach access areas or oceanfront hotel rooms. Or you can go on a boat trip for that purpose. For fishing or whale watching contact either Tradewinds Charters, (541) 765-2345 or Dockside Charters, (541) 765-2545 . These are generally hour-long trips, if it is just whale watching. The best thing to do is call ahead, after the 8 a.m. trip has returned. Then they know where the whales are and how much activity there is. Both companies are located in Depoe Bay, just 8 miles south of Lincoln City.
